How Much Do Bonuses Buy At Hsbc?

17,000 investment bankers at the UK's biggest bank, HSBC, were notified of their bonuses for 2001 during the last few days. There are alleged to be few smiling faces.

It is believed that the bank was forced to cut the 2001 investment banking bonus pool after a tough year and that many bankers received little or no bonus for their efforts during the period. a difficult year for most investment banks. Morale is said to be suffering as a result.

HSBC has refused to comment about the size of the bonuses.
