Barclays Goes To Washington ?

posted: 10 years ago

Barclays have refused to comment on reports that they are likely to be called up by US Congressional investigators to testify at the Enron hearings about a £7.8m loan advanced to the bankrupt energy group in 1997.

It is believed that the loan was advanced to two of the Enron 'Special Purpose Vehicles' which enabled to the company to hide billions of dolars of debt from investors.

It is thought likely that Barclays will be one of several banks who will be asked to provide information about their involvement with Enron.

In a related story, it is believed that Fleming & Associates, the well-known class-action law firm, is considering including Barclays in a law suit it intends to bring against Enron bankers and law advisers.
