Barclays Bankers Leave After Big Blow-Out

Five of the six Barclays Capital investment bankers, who made headlines in July by blowing £44,000 on drink at Gordon Ramsey's Petrus restaurant, are believed to have left the company.

Although it was not uncommon to see investment bankers celebrate successful deals with expensive meals in the heady days of the past, such a practice is now frowned upon. It is not currently deemed too clever to waste money in this way at a time when thousands of City employees have lost their jobs due to deteriorating market conditions.

Big bar tabs are expected to make a comeback when the market improves.
