Job Losses In Japan - Still A Problem

For many years unemployment was something other countries suffered, but Japan has now had to get used to the concept. 230,000 Japanese lost their jobs in January alone, taking the total unemployed in the country to 3.55 million.

With Hitachi and Misawa Homes believed to be announcing lay-offs at the month end, job prospects in Japan are not good. Some Japanese are so discouraged that they are not even bothering to look for jobs at the moment. The number of people in this category rose 1.2m in the last year.
