Andersen Considers Plea

Accounting firm Andersen are thought to be in talks with the US Justice Department which may lead to a guilty plea in connection with the destruction of documents relating to the firm's audit work with Enron.

It is thought that Andersen may be better off entering a plea rather than merely waiting to be charged by federal prosecutors for obstruction of justice. Any charges would relate to the destruction of Enron documents at the Houston offices of the firm after the former energy giant collapsed. Andersen have also previously said that some documents may have been destroyed following a request from the Securities and Exchange Commission to see audit information relating to the corporation.

Although the firm has refused to comment, a deal is thought to be on the cards and a guilty plea considered likely.
