Eddie George, Governor of the Bank of England, confirmed that overall top central bankers were much more upbeat about global economic prospects and that a slow recovery had begun.
George said that there were increasingly positive signs about the US economy and that even in Japan conditions had brightened in relative terms.
Central Bankers Optimistic
Central bankers meeting in Basle are confident that world economic conditions are improving, but are reluctant to predict how strong the recovery will be.
