Accountants In Court Over Barings

Creditors of failed British merchant bank Barings received a lift Thurday when a court ruled that accountants Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu will have to go to trial to defend it's role in the collapse of the bank.

A court date has been fixed for May for the action that was brought by Baring liquidators KPMG, who are claiming in excess of £100m because they feel Deloitte's should have spotted the huge losses run up by rogue trader, Nick Leeson.

The Financial Times said that Deloitte might settle out of court. The accountants were not Barings main auditors.
