More Merger Speculation

posted: 10 years ago

As it becomes clear that 2002 will be at least as bad a year for investment banks as the year before, rumours abound that some of the big players are looking to find merger partners in a bid to save on costs.

The Chief Executives of Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch are believed to have had dinner together in New York recently and this has fuelled rumours about a possible merger between the two organisations.

Rumours also abound overseas that Citigroup is in discussions with Credit Suisse in connection with a possible purchase of investment banking arm, Credit Suisse First Boston.
