Enron Directors Blame Skilling

The Dallas Morning News reported Friday that Enron executives were looking to former CEO Jeff Skilling to protect the company's interests and were angry when they discovered that the off-the-book partnerships that he had authorized jeopardised the very survival of the organization.

Although Skilling testified to congressional investigators that he was only vaguely aware of the controversial partnership arrangements, main board directors are now believed to be angry that he kept them out of the loop and, perhaps, may have misled them.

Skilling's claims that he was unaware of the true nature of the risks involved in the partnership arrangements are barely credible. As the man at the helm of the corporate, he ought to have known.

The former chief executive left Enron in August 2001, claiming personal reasons to justify his departure.
