Deutsche Predicts 'Difficult Year'

Deutsche Bank Chief Executive Rolf Breur confirmed Monday that he expects 2002 to be a tough year for investment banks.

The bank is planning to sell unprofitable businesses and will restart negotiations for asset sales, previously shelved because of the economic downturn.

Breuer told shareholders that the bank is preparing for an upswing in the markets and expects economies to revive in the second half of 2002. The impact on banking revenues, however, will not be felt until the end of the year at the earliest.
