6,000 Andersen Jobs May Go

The Financial Times has reported that troubled auditor Arthur Andersen is considering shedding 6,000 jobs in the United States. The firm is currently fighting for survival in the wake of indictment by the US Justice Department on obstruction of justice charges pursuant to its audit of the Enron Corporation.

The newspaper has revealed that plans are afoot in the US to reduce headcount in direct proportion to the number of clients the firm has lost since its activities with Enron first came to light. This would mean around 6,000 job losses. An announcement is thought likely this week.

Andersen confirmed last week that it would make 'difficult decisions in a number of areas over the next few months.'
