Andersen Settlement Talks Stall

Negotiations between Andersen and representatives for Enron shareholders collapsed Friday as it emerged that the accounting firm was facing a cash squeeze.

Eric Green, the Court appointed mediator, announced that talks had stalled and that there was no reason to believe that a settlement is possible.

The Enron investors claim that Andersen knew, or ought to have known, about the improper accounting procedures that contributed to the downfall of the former energy giant. They also believe that Andersen could merely admit liability and claim on its indemnity insurance.
