Bid Likely For London Stock Exchange

The Sunday Telegraph has revealed that the operator of the Frankfurt stock exchange, Deutsche Boerse AG, is considering a bid for the London Stock Exchange in a move which would create a new exchange worth around £4bn

Werner Seifert, the Boerse's CEO is believed to have already briefed shareholders and is thought to be preparing his move in the summer. Goldman Sachs are thought to be acting as advisers on the proposed deal.

It is thought that, should the deal go ahead, the new exhange would be based in London.

Mergers talks between the two companies were shelved two years ago as LSE shareholders were not keen on the tie-up. Since then both companies have become listed and the proposition may well now be viable.

The Sunday Telegraph did not quote sources for the story. Seifert has described the newspaper report as 'an April Fool's joke.'
