Enron - Suicide Note Could Hold Clues

Former Enron Executive, J Clifford Baxter, left home in Houston on January 25 and shot himself dead in his locked Mercedes-Benz. Campaigners now want the suicide note he left his wife to be published as they feel that it might lead to vital clues that could unraval the truth behind the collapse of the former energy giant.

Baxter quit Enron, where he was a vice chairman, in May 2001, just months prior to its quick descent into collapse.

Records show that he sold $35.2m in Enron shares shortly before its fall from grace. He was also named by 'whistleblower' Sherron Watkins in the infamous warning she sent to then Enron chairman Kenneth Lay detailing the company's accounting problems.

There is no doubt that, as a senior member of the Enron executive team, Baxter would have been involved in many key discussions and initiatives undertaken by the company.

Lawyers acting for the family, however, claim that the suicide note contains personal and intimate family information and should not be published.
