Fund Manager To Stand Alone

After twice being jilted by suitors this year, Edinburgh Fund Managers have now confirmed that it plans to preserve its independence.

Negotiations with BT pension arm Hermes and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia came to nothing this year.

2001 proved to be a difficult one for the fund manager as pre-tax profits almost halved to £6.5m and funds under management fell 18% to around £7bn.

Chairman John Wright confirmed that 'trading conditions remain challenging'.
