GE Capital To Shed 7,000 Jobs

US giant General Electric Co. confirmed Monday that 7,000 jobs would go this year in financial services arm, GE Capital.

GE Capital accounts for around 40% of the group's earnings.

The group is now looking to push through cost reductions and improve productivity. First quarter earnings disappointed the market and the group share price is coming under pressure.

GE itself is being subjected to increasing calls for more financial disclosure in the wake of the Enron scandal.
