Lehman Takes On Rivals

Akio Katsuragi is head of investment banking and president of Lehman in Japan. He is determined to take on rivals Merrills and Morgan Stanley in the region and has now hired three managing directors and will not stop there.

Lehman have now hired Katsuhiko Kobayashi, who used to work for Merrills, to head up debt capital markets. Harry Murakami, ex Bear Stearn, will head mergers and acquisitions and Kenro Arimoto, previously at Morgan Stanley, will come to cover financial corporates.

The investment banking unit in Japan is now around 40 strong and there are plans to hire 10 more.
