The much respected member of the investment bank's managing board was also responsible for the firm's capital markets, fixed income and treasury business, global equities, private equity, structured finance and transactional services.
He is leaving to lead strategic finance and will oversee capital markets activities at Bear Sterns.
The move is seen to be a slap in the face to the Dutch bank. Senior bankers seldom move at ABN and Bear Sterns is not seen as a top quality rival.
