Ex Andersen Partner Sings

The New York Times has reported that David Duncan, the former Andersen partner who struck a deal with federal regulators over his role in the Enron affair, is now fully cooperating with authorities and revealing details which will help in the investigation against the firm.

The NY Times has revealed that Duncan appears to have confirmed that the 'roots of the obstruction of justice scandal reach(es) back further than previously believed.'

It is alleged that an unofficial committee was formed by Andersen soon after the Enron problems came to light. It is claimed that the decision to destroy Enron-related documents 'emerged as a result of discussions among members of that group.'

It is believed that Mr Duncan's testimony will be used by federal prosecutors in the event that the case against Andersen does come to trial. The firm is due to appear on obstruction of justice charges in a trial set to begin on May 6th.

In a related story, it is now thought likely that Paul Volcker, the former Federal Reserve Chairman brought in to help Andersen clean up its act, may soon leave the firm. He is thought to have become increasinly frustrated and has struggled to define a useful role for himself within the organisation.
