Sacked AIB Banker Seeks Cash

The Guardian reports that David Cronin, the most senior casualty from the John Rusnak £490m Allied Irish Banks (AIB) rogue-trading affair, is negotiating with the bank for a pay-off. He was sacked just seven weeks ago.

Cronin was treasurer at Allfirst, the AIB subsidiary in Maryland, USA where Rusnak was employed. Although he was in no way involved in any illegal activities, he was dismissed for failing to supervise the trader and in that way contributing to the huge loss.

It is now thought that Cronin is demanding a six-figure sum by way of pay-off and it is felt that AIB may be inclined to pay up if he agrees to not speak out publicly about what happened at the US subsidiary.

AIB has refused to comment on the story.
