Barclays Hires Former Enron Traders

Barclays Bank has hired 25 traders, primarily from Enron, in a bid to beef up its energy trading business.

Richard Lewis and Joe Gold, both previously at Enron, will head up Barclays Capital's European and UK natural gas and power team to assist clients reduce the risk from swings in prices.

Banks are becoming increasingly attracted to the power and gas trading market as the volatility could mean large profits.

Barclays has now joined UBS in hiring former Enron energy traders and plans to begin trading in the third quarter this year.
