Deutsche Boss Announces Merger Plans

Deutsche Bank chairman Rolf Breuer has now ruled out the bank making a merger or acquisition in the next 18 months.

In an interview with the Financial Times Deutschland, Breuer said that 'in the next 18 months we are not planning any expansion, either through a merger or a takeover.'

He confirmed that Deutsche needed to improve its market capitalisation in order to give the bank a viable acquisition currency. Breuer reaffirmed his previous statements that he expected to see cross border mergers in Europe before too long, but ruled out mega-deals. He said that he expected mergers to be retail or private banking-based, rather than involving investment banks.
