UBS Warburg Investigated

The Korea Herald reports that the Korean regulator, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), is investigating UBS Warburg Securites for allegedly leaking an analysis report on Samsung Electronics prior to the official release date. The regulator is also believed to be searching for any signs of illegal stock market transactions by the brokerage.

The FSC is reported as saying that it would launch additional investigations relating to illegal stock market activities in the event that it found that UBS Warburg had engaged in self-account trading before the official release of the corporate analysis of Samsung Electronics.

With no insiders involved in the allegations and as the released analysis contained no falsehoods, however, it is difficult to see how the FSC could press charges against the brokerage firm, unless it managed to obtain an undue financial advantage by the early release of the Samsung information.
