Andersen Attacks Whistleblower

Lawyers for Arthur Andersen have begun to attack the credibility of the US government's star witness in the trail of the firm on obstruction of justice charges.

Former Andersen partner Andrew Duncan has now been cross-examined by US celebrity attorney, Rusty Hardin, who attempted to cast doubt on his motives. Hardin said that Duncan only agreed that he had acted illegally after federal procecutors promised him lenientcy.

Duncan has previously said that fear and investigators' pressure did convince him that he was guilty of a crime and resulted in him pleading guilty of obstructing justice when he ordered the destruction of certain documents relevant to the Enron audit.

Hardin was attempting to make a case that the former Andersen partner had been coerced by the prosecution.

The case continues.
