UBS Warburg Set To Conquer Wall Street

Reuters reports that UBS Warburg's boss has repeated his dream that the investment bank can take on the might of Wall Street in its own back yard.

The firm's chairman and chief executive, John Costas, said in an interview at Warburg's Stamford, Connecticut, office last week that his goal of making the firm a bigger presence in the States remains the same.

The bank has more than doubled its Americas investment banking staff to around 760 in the last three years and hiring 30 managing directors last years was seen as a clear notice of intent.

The increase in staff in the region is in sharp contrast to many of the firm's competitors. Over 45,000 jobs were lost on Wall Street in the year ending February 2002.
