Germany's Recession Over

After six months of recession, economic growth has returned in Germany.

Europe's biggest economy grew 0.2% in the first quarter 2002. The German Federal Statistical Office put this down mainly to the strong rise in exports.

BBC Online reports that the prospects for economic growth this year appears bright. A German Finance Ministry official is quoted as saying: 'These are the first indications that the expected upturn has started.'
