Employee Sues Bank To Prevent Removal

Eugene McErlean is Allied Irish Banks' (AIB) group internal auditor and he has now begun High Court proceedings against the bank in an attempt to prevent it from removing him from his post.

The Sunday Business Post Online reports that McErLean claims that AIB intends to make him the 'scapegoat' for the recent $691m FX trading scandal at its US subsidiary Allfirst. He will now ask the court to confirm his permanent and pensionable position as head of the group internal audit function.

He claims that AIB has decided to remove him without due cause and is also seeking damages for defamation, stigma, conspiracy, intimidation and breach of contract.

McErlean has been on leave from the bank since March.
