BNP Thought To Be Close To Bid

The Mail On Sunday reports that French bank BNP Paribas is thought to be mulling over making a bid for Jupiter, the asset manager owned by German rival Commerzbank.

BNP has a small presence in asset management. Its 35 staff manages around £150bn. The group has previously announced that it has funds available for acquisitions.

Jupiter, which manages around £11bn for UK investors could be bought for around £500m, well within BNP's £5bn acquisition budget.

Goldman Sachs is handling the sale and is believed to be sending out details of the sale to bidders in the next few days.
