Bank of New York Sanction Ends

Msnbc reports that the US Federal Reserve has now confirmed it is terminating its sanction against the Bank of New York as the bank has now corrected the alleged deficiencies in its anti-money laundering procedures.

The U.S. Central Bank took out an enforcement action against the Bank of New York in February 2000 after it was revealed that it had served as a conduit for $7bn in Russian money, some of which was believed to made from criminal activities.

Although the bank was not fined, it was formally sanctioned by the Fed for allegedly lax risk-management and control procedures.
