Andersen Fall Will Mean Higher Fees

BBC Online reports that the accounting industry will apply much more cautious and rigorous procedures in the aftermath of the Andersen affair. And this will mean higher fees for clients.

As Andersen's global network of partnerships is carved up by rivals and clients flock to the 'big four' remaining auditors, firms will no doubt take more time and care over audits in order to avoid following Andersen's lead. This will most certainly result in higher audit fees for clients.

Analysts believe, however, that there will be a general improvement in the quality of audits as a result of the Andersen case.

Andersen is currently awaiting sentence following its conviction on obstruction of justice charges. The firm has already confirmed that it intends to appeal, but cannot do so until after it is sentenced.
