FSA Admits It Has 'Inexperienced' Staff

The Financial Times has reported that City watchdog, The Financial Services Authority (FSA), has admitted that its frontline regulators were too inexperienced to deal effectively with the complaints they received about banks, insurers and stockbrokers.

FSA chairman Howard Davies has said in the annual report that 'although we are almost fully staffed, experience levels in frontline areas remain too low.....An intensive programme of training and development will be necessary to correct that deficiency.'

The UK regulator is now almost fully staffed, however, as it has been able to take advantage of the recent headcount reductions in the City to pick up good quality experienced bankers.
