Barclays Capital Banned

Channel News Asia reports that Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) has banned the Tokyo branch of Barclays Capital from derivatives trading for five days 'for violating transaction regulations.'

The regulator said that the firm conducted over-the-counter derivatives brokering, credit-derivative transactions and intermediation of cash lending and borrowing without proper authorization.

Japanese regulators have clamped down on trading activities in recent months and have stepped up surveillance of its market in a bid to bolster investor confidence.

Barclays Capital will be banned from trading in its Tokyo office from July 1st - 5th. The ban follows a review of the company's operations last November by the FSA.
