Cantor Condemns 'Repugnant' Poaching

posted: 10 years ago

The Guardian reports that America firm Cantor Fitzgerald, which lost more than 600 staff in the September 11th terrorist attacks, is suing Icap in a London court for allegedly plotting to poach senior staff in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.

Icap's chief executive, Michael Spencer, visited his counterpart at Cantor, Lee Amaitis, soon after the September 11th attacks to offer his condolances. It is now claimed that, before long, he would be planning to poach away senior staff and attempt to hasten the demise of the firm.

Icap have claimed that they offered Cantor a 'no-poaching' agreement, but that Amaitis had rejected the offer. Amaitis has countered by saying that such arrangements are 'anti-trust' and 'illegal'.

Cantor is suing Icap for inducing its staff to breach their contracts. It is also suing three former London staff members for breach of contract.

The so-called plot to entice away staff just after the events of September 11th has been described as 'cynical and repugnant.'

The case continues.
