Cantor Accused Of Bonus Threats

Cantor Fitzgerald is suing three former brokers in London for breach of contract. The Telegraph reports that it was alleged in the High Court that the firm threatened to withhold bonus payments unless staff agreed to switch to a commission-based salary scheme.

Scott Barbrack, a broker who left the firm to go to Prebon Marshall Yamane, claimed in a witness statement that: 'I recall Daniel LaVecchia (Executive managing director) saying he was holding £100,000 of my money and asking when I was going to sign up to the new scheme...I said I should get it anyway as part of my bonus. Mr LaVecchia said if I did not sign the new deal, I would not get the money.'

Cantor, which is suing former employees Edward Bird, Luigi Boucher and Spencer Gill, for breach of contract on leaving the firm, was accused of 'blackmailing the staff.'

Cantor is also attempting to obtain a six-month injunction again rival firm, ICAP, where the three ex-employees now work, from poaching any further staff.
