Who's On The Job Move - 19th July

Here's the latest on the 'Movers & Shakers' front.

DEUTSCHE BANK

Deutsche Bank has hired Dixit Joshi as Head of Equities for EMEA. His appointment reinforces the bank's commitment to clients in the region and will strengthen its leading position in cash equities, equity derivatives and prime brokerage.

Joshi will join the bank from Barclays Capital where he was Head of Equities for EMEA, establishing and building that business after his appointment to the role in 2008. He joined Barclays Capital in 2003 from Credit Suisse First Boston. Starting in October, he will report to Garth Ritchie, Global Head of Equities, and will be based in London.

Deutsche Bank also announced that Jeffrey Mayer will join as Head of Global Markets for North America, managing the Bank's market-leading sales and trading business in the region.

Mayer will report to Anshu Jain, Head of the Corporate and Investment Bank and Member of the Management Board and Group Executive Committee. Mayer will be based in New York.

Mayer will join the Bank with over 20 years of cross-asset class sales, trading and management experience. Most recently, Mayer was the executive chairman of fixed income, currencies and commodities and head of complex structured products at UBS. Prior to UBS, Mayer spent 19 years at Bear Stearns, most recently as global co-head of fixed income.

The bank has also announced three new hires which will serve as the core of a newly established ECM Execution Group in the Americas. The new group will be comprised of two Managing Directors and a Director and will oversee execution of franchise business with support from origination in ECM as well as Corporate Finance coverage teams.

Jay Coleman will join the Bank as a Managing Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets Execution, Americas.  Coleman joins from Barclays/Lehman, where he most recently served as Global Head of Equity Capital Markets Execution. Prior to leading the Barclays/Lehman equity execution practice, Coleman worked at Morgan Stanley where he was responsible for executing a variety of equity transactions for that firm. Coleman has more than 13 years' experience in capital markets.

In addition, Mark Schwartz and Ben Marsh will join as a Managing Director and Director, respectively.  Schwartz has been a Director at Barclays/Lehman in the firm's Equity Capital Markets Execution Group for the past four years. Prior to that he was a lawyer at both Davis Polk and the SEC. Marsh also will join from Barclays/Lehman, where he was a Director and Head of the Mergers & Acquisitions Conflicts Group within the Compliance Department as well as previously holding an ECM execution role. He too practiced law at Davis Polk.  Both Schwartz and Marsh will report to Mr. Coleman.  

All three individuals will join after a notice period and will be based in New York.  

And Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc. has announced that Kristen Stewart has joined as a Director and senior company research analyst within its Global Markets division. Based in New York, Stewart will provide equity research coverage of the Medical Supplies and Devices sector and report to Steve Pollard, Managing Director and Head of Research for the Americas.

Stewart joined from Credit Suisse, where she ranked third on Institutional Investor's All America Research Team for Medical Supplies in 2009. Prior to that, she was a research analyst at UBS covering Medical Supplies and Devices.

JEFFERIES & CO

In a further expansion of the firm's global financial sponsor coverage, Jefferies has announced the addition of Victor von Mengersen as a Managing Director and Head of German Financial Sponsor Coverage. Mr. von Mengersen will be located in the firm's Frankfurt office.

Von Mengersen brings to Jefferies 15 years of experience in German sponsor coverage and more than 20 years of leveraged finance experience. This includes seven years at UBS as a Managing Director and Head of the German Financial Sponsor and Leveraged Finance Group, and five years at Dresdner Bank as a Managing Director in the Leveraged Finance Group.

LAZARD

Lazard has announced that is has hired Jonathan Turnbull as a Managing Director in the Power, Energy, and Infrastructure Investment Banking Group, effectively immediately. Based in New York, Turnbull joins from Citigroup where he was a Managing Director and Global Head of its Infrastructure Group in investment banking.

MOELIS & CO

Moelis & Company has announced Joseph W. Simon has joined the firm as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer. Simon will be responsible for all finance and accounting matters and will be based in the firm's headquarters in New York. He has over 25 years of experience as a senior manager of financial controls, operations and strategy and has particular experience with financial services firms.

Simon most recently served as CFO of Financial Security Assurance ("FSA") for seven years. He was a member of the Executive Management Committee and re-engineered FSA's treasury and accounting areas to enhance the firm's financial planning and analysis, allocation of capital and transparency of financial reporting. In addition, he led several financing transactions for the firm.

The firm has also announced Vincent Lima has joined the firm as a Managing Director responsible for providing capital markets advisory solutions and managing transaction executions from the firm's New York headquarters. Lima joins from Christopher Street Capital where he was a founding partner of the US credit business and a Managing Director in charge of capital markets.

MORGAN STANLEY

Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) has announced the appointment of Michael Kushma as Chief Investment Officer of Global Fixed Income.  In this role, Kushma will oversee all of MSIM's fixed income strategies.

Kushma is currently Co-Head of MSIM's Global and European fixed income team and has 23 years of investment experience.  Since joining MSIM in 1995, Mr. Kushma has helped to oversee the Global and European fixed income team which comprises 20 investors based in London, New York and Tokyo and has approximately $25 billion in assets under management. 

Kushma's appointment follows several recent hires to strengthen the leadership team of MSIM, including:

  • Sara Furber, Chief Operating Officer, Long-Only business
  • Jim Janover, Global Head of MSIM Risk
  • Lisa Jones, Global Head of MSIM Sales
  • Navtej Nandra, Head of MSIM International

NOMURA

Nomura continues to strengthen its Investment Banking division with the appointment of Robert Goodman as a Managing Director and Vice Chairman of the Global Financial Institutions Group.

Goodman will be responsible for coverage of Insurance clients and brings with him over 25 years of industry experience, having previously held the roles of Co-Head of Insurance Asset Management at Deutsche Bank AG and Global Head of Insurance at Lazard. He began his investment banking career at Goldman Sachs after having been a partner at McKinsey & Company. Goodman will be based in London, which is the European headquarters of Nomura's insurance sector capabilities.

Goodman's hire continues to strengthen Nomura's team following the recent appointments of Francesco Mele, who joined as Managing Director for EMEA Financial Institutions Group covering Italian Financial Institutional clients, and Simon Western, who covers Asset Management in the Americas Financial Institutions Group.

And Nomura Securities International, Inc. has announced that Paul Lejuez will join the firm as a senior analyst covering the Specialty Retail sector in the firm's US Equity Research department.

Lejuez will be based in New York and will join Nomura from Credit Suisse where he was a senior analyst with lead coverage of specialty retail companies, focusing on softline retailers. He was recognized by Institutional Investor as a Runner Up in the Retailing/Specialty Stores sector in 2008 and 2009.
