Mrs. Lim held various offices in the government of Singapore, retiring from public service as Minister in the Prime Minister's Office.

Graduating fromRaffles Institutionand as an Overseas Merit Scholar, Mrs. Lim received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Mathematics/Engineering from theUniversity of Cambridgein 1981. She obtained a Master of Business Administration from theAnderson School of Management,University of California, Los Angeles, in 1989.
Mrs. Lim began her career as an Administrative Officer in the Ministries of Finance, Education and Law. In 1989, she joinedSwiss Bank Corporationas an investment analyst and moved on to Jardine Fleming in 1992, where she served as Head of Research and Director of Business Development. In 2000, she joinedTemasek Holdingsfirst as Managing Director of Corporate Stewardship and later, Managing Director of Strategic Relations.
Mrs. Lim was elected Member of Parliament for theMarine Parade GroupRepresentation Constituency in both the 1997 and 2001 Singapore General Elections. Mrs. Lim was appointed Minister of State for Finance and Transport in 2004.
In 2006, Mrs. Lim was elected Member of Parliament for the Aljunied Group Representation Constituency. She was promoted to Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport in 2008. In 2009, Mrs. Lim become the first woman minister when she was promoted to Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and concurrently to Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for Transport.
