In fact, the namesake, Tim, would probably freak out if he knew we put tea-bagging in the same article as his name. But when your practise of dropping to one knee to pray to God after important football points gets you into the mainstream, you kind of open yourself up to a bit of craziness.
Here's what you need to know:
- Tim Tebow is the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. He was born in 1987. (That makes him 24 years old.)
- He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and is the youngest of five kids.
- He was homeschooled, though legislation allowed him to play for a local school, where he was met with controversy (homeschooling) and attention (ability).
- He went to University of Florida, won the Heisman Trophy, and had his first name-sake with The Tebow Rule, which went into effect during his career and prevented NCAA (university) football players from writing messages in their eye black (the paint under their eyes to reduce glare). Previously, he wrote Biblical verses in his paint, and millions of people searched them online. (Jesus!)
- He was drafted by the Broncos and signed a contract that pays him anywhere from $8.7m to $33m, depending on his performance.
- He played well, etc., and received a ton of media attention for a variety of reasons. Which brings us to...
- Tebowing! On 23 Oct 2011, Tebow knelt in prayer on the field after the Broncos beat the Miami Dolphins. A fan (Jared Kleinstein) mimicked the pose on Facebook with his friends, it was hugely popular, and so he started a site called Tebowing.com.
Here's how the site defines Tebowing: "To get down on a knee and start praying even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different.”
So there you have it!
We don't really recommend you do it in your office right now.
