'It's a witch hunt!
We sit here like a bunch of split melons watching helplessly as Members of Parliament fiddle, terrorists are allowed to stay because of their 'right to a family life', and spongers make out like bandits off our welfare state. That we take, but when Fred Goodwin becomes an easy target, we go for it - big time!
Having said that, I don't know of anyone who really feels sorry for hapless Fred. So what if it is a bit unfair ? The guy is still pulling in a cool £350k a year for life in retirement.
Of course there are many other bankers implicated in the last financial crisis - and especially in the sad affair that is RBS - and it's only right that these bankers get vilified like Goodwin. But the fact is that they won't - unless there are a few more witch hunts, because it's clearly not happening through the courts or under the auspices of the FSA.
Maybe it is time we listened to the public mood. Maybe it is time for a bit of arbitrary justice to make these arrogant financial types think more carefully and take a lot less risk. Right now the mob's in control, but that might not be such a bad thing. Viva la Revolution!
