October 15: Heads important equaliser at Anfield to secure a 1-1 draw (1 point)

October 29: Scores winner at Goodison Park in a 1-0 win over Everton (3 points)

November 19: Bags winner at Swansea City in another 1-0 win (3 points)

November 26: Scores the opener in a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United (1 point)

February 5: Heads the crucial equaliser in a pulsating 3-3 draw with Chelsea (1 point)

This is not to include the two goals he scored in a 5-0 win away to Bolton Wanderers in August- as United were on course to claim those points anyway and the goals were not decisive.

Last season Hernandez became the first player since Ruud van Nistelrooy to score 20 goals for Manchester United in his debut season. They too were decisive efforts.

They included a 1-0 winner against Everton, two goals in a 2-1 away win at Stoke, a winner away to West Brom, and the crucial opener in a 2-0 Old Trafford win against Chelsea, netted after just 36 seconds.

He has been in and out of the Old Trafford side with injuries this season, and faces new competition from Danny Welbeck; but there is no player who has contributed more decisive points than Hernandez.

If United do win the league this season, the Mexican will have played a huge part, and you suspect there is more to come...
