Lucas van Praag, Goldman's global head of corporate comms, is to retire at the end of March.

Lucas, we'll miss you and wish you well. Live long and prosper

Van Praag is one of the only people we know who could tell you to 'get lost' and still make you feel good.

The New York Times has the firm memo:

'After 12 years of outstanding service, Lucas van Praag, global head of Corporate Communications, will retire from the firm at the end of March. We are pleased that Lucas will continue to provide strategic advice as a consultant to Goldman Sachs.

Lucas joined the firm in 2000 as the director of Corporate Communications for Europe and later assumed oversight for Corporate Communications in Asia. He was named managing director in 2000 and partner in 2006. Lucas was a member of the European Management Committee and served on the Firmwide Business Practices Committee. Prior to joining the firm, Lucas was a partner at Brunswick Group, a financial public relations firm. He also spent 10 years as a banker at Bankers Trust Company in New York. He is a member of the board of FACES at New York University‘s Langone Medical Center and is a visiting fellow at Oxford University‘s Said Business School.

Lucas has played a critical role in helping the firm navigate through one of the most difficult and testing environments the firm has faced, particularly during the recent financial crisis and its aftermath. His strategic counsel and deep understanding of complex issues defined his career at the firm as did his warmth, natural inclusiveness and determination in the face of relentless demands. The countless hours he spent with external constituencies was matched by the time and attention he committed to all of us, explaining and engaging on important issues and trends. Lucas was a tireless advocate and we are pleased that we will continue to benefit from his judgment and experience.

Please join us in thanking Lucas for his extraordinary contributions to the firm and wishing him, Miranda and their family the best in the future.
