Getting It On in the UK

Shag Point

Need some locational inspiration for this Valentine's Day? It's here, right here, in your own fair country.

TheDogsDoodahs, a company with which we were previously unfamiliar (but now kind of love, and one that sends out personalised cards), put together a list of places around the UK for the ultimate Valentine's spots. Please note they will likely be full of other people. But on the bright side, they might be people as silly as you.

  1. Shag Point (Devon)
  2. Love Green (Buckinghamshire)
  3. Hearts Delight (Kent)
  4. Loves Green (Essex)
  5. Cupid’s Hill (Monmouthshire)
  6. Lover (Wiltshire)
  7. Loverstone (Isle of Wight)
  8. Truelove (Devon)
  9. Ishag Glen (Stirling)
  10. Sweetheart Abbey (Dumfries)

Another publicity-seeking company (the nation's first free-to-enter prize draw website - although we're not sure what that means) has disclosed a list of the nation's top proposal spots. So be sure to avoid these if you're proposing on Tuesday (and hell, even if you aren't):

  1. Welsh Coastline
  2. Stonehenge
  3. The Cotswolds
  4. On the London Eye
  5. Lake Windermere
  6. In the comfort of my own home
  7. Top of Mount Snowdon
  8. Dromoland Castle in County Clare, Ireland
  9. Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
  10. At the top of Primrose Hill overlooking London

Five of the Best

Things we love, things we want, things we want to do, and things we think are just cool, interesting, or at least noteworthy.

  1. No doubt: these are the hippest speakers that could ever possibly bookend your computer. Is your music collection ready?
  2. An idea for your next rendezvous in Paris (or crazy weekend with friends): a private cruise in a motorboat for three hours of Champagne-fueled romance (or fun).
  3. While we are rarely ones to turn down a charitable opportunity, how about taking that pile of spring cleaning cast-offs to a car boot sale? We're pretty sure you could get a new handbag out of the proceeds...
  4. We're loving this bold, striped tie from Paul Stuart. The meek need not click.
  5. The coolest personalised cufflinks around are these. They include words, names or places, which run off the surface creating a rather ambiguous stream of letters. (And let's face it: a bit of mystery never hurt anyone.)
