Her father and uncle are hired to clean out a dilapidated lakeside house in the middle of nowhere. Laura works with her dad as her mother has passed away. At the house, the windows and doors are boarded up, and the front and back doors are always kept locked, with the keys in her father's pocket.
Laura searches for her dad with the help of a lantern, and a few minutes later, finds him hurt on the floor. Who did this? Laura realises then that she needs to get out of house, so she looks for a way out. Wait. What was the noise? Who is following her? Up and down the stairs, going form room to room, she can't find the doors. Then Laura remembers there is a basement back door. She goes back to her father to get the keys from his pocket. She tries to unlock the door, and that scary figure is following her, getting closer and closer. Laura gets the door open and is free. Or at least for a while. Laura sees her uncle in his truck in the driveway. She is hysterical. She tells him that they need to get help. But he takes her back to the house to help get her father out. They go back in the house, from room to room, encountering the same strange figure, and then her uncle disappears. What happened to him? And who is being dragged on the floor? Laura again is left alone to find a way out to get help.
Elizabeth Olsen, as wide eyed and very frightened Laura, is very convincing in her role. It's hard to believe she is the sister of the Olsen twins. Olsen is the hot actress at the moment, and certainly she will move on to bigger and better roles. With her wide eyes and frightened face, we can feel the terror and horror that she is going through.
Having said that, I wasn't crazy about the ending. It wrapped up the story nice and neat, but still left many questions unanswered. All in all, Silent House is a very scary horror film, just with a disappointing ending.
Silent House opens on Friday May 4hth.
