The Sunshine Boys [REVIEW]

posted: 12 months ago

Richard Griffiths And Danny DeVito

Who would have expected to see one of England's most esteemed stage actors, Richard Griffiths, on a West End stage with the very short American TV and film star Danny DeVito? But there they are, on the Savoy Theatre stage, starring in a remake of The Sunshine Boys, by Neil Simon.

In The Sunshine Boys, Griffiths plays Al Lewis, and Devito plays Willie Clark, who spent 40 years performing together as a vaudeville comedy duo. Over that time, they grew to dislike each other, and stopped speaking to one another once their act broke up. Now, a television network asks the men to reunite for a one off show. As they attempt to get their act together again for the reunion show, their aggressions and stubbornness will either make the show a hit, or a big disaster. Can they pull it off? Will they pull it off?

Richard Griffiths, who is an OBE, has starred on the stage, film and television. He played the professor in the well received film and movie, The History Boys. He also was in the Harry Potter films, as well as in Pirates of the Carribbean. His film CV goes on and on, and includes Superman II, Ragtime, The French Lieutenant's Woman, Sleepy Hollow, and many others.

Danny DeVito is best known for his starring role in the America's 1970s hit television show, Taxi, where he played the dispatcher of a taxi garage. DeVito has also starred in several films alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Twins, where he played Arnold Schwarzenegar's twin brother, Ruthless People with Bette Midler, Romancing the Stone and War of the Roses with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, among many other films. He also made his directorial debut with Billy Crystal in the black comedy, Throw Mama from the Train.

This is your one chance to see what could be the most mismatched pair on stage ever seen on a West End Stage. The Sunshine Boys ends on July 28th.

  4. If you wish you lived in a luxurious, hip barns like we do, then you'll want to click here to find out about renting one for a self-catering holiday.
  5. We haven't exactly fact-checked this Abercrombie & Fitch slam, but we're certainly open to it (and think you should be, too).
