Shaker & Company For the Football

posted: 1 year ago

England Jersey

Euro 2012, and England expects. But, maybe not as much as before. Nevertheless as I write, England are warming up to do battle with the French, and by the time you read this, they may be heading to the knockout phase, or...heading home. Let’s hope it’s the former.

Shaker & Company in Warren Street have got into the football spirit by converting their basement drinking den into a sports bar for the tournament. This new hideaway is equipped with a large screen, all your technical wants, chilled beers to grab, superb cocktails, and a steady supply of top notch bar food. It will comfortably take 20 people, and be a snug fit for 40. But hey, your workmates are your friends, right?

I popped down to see the Russia versus Czech Republic, and while it lacks some of the atmosphere of your outright footballing pub, the home cinema feel, top cocktails and gorgeous snacks make it a perfect night out for the thinking person’s football fan.

You might want to try and pop along while our boys are still in the tournament.

Five of the Best

Things we love, things we want, things we want to do, and things we think are just cool, interesting, or at least noteworthy.

  1. Here's a good rule to live by: If you have to ask yourself if something is OK to do, it's probably not.
  2. Classical sculptures with clothes on. They're hip and they're way cooler than us.
  3. All hail, Stevie Nicks! If you like her, you'll want to read this. (And come on, who doesn't like her?)
  4. Take a trip down memory lane, checking out the Withnail & I: The End photography exhibition from Proud Camden, which begins late June.
  5. We can't warm up to the idea that the International Herald Tribune will be renamed the International New York Times this autumn.
