Are AC Milan financing a renewed bid for Carlos Tevez?

posted: 11 months ago

Tevez Waves

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez was almost sold in January to the Serie A giants. Are they about to go back in for him?

AC Milan came mightily close to signing Argentine forward Tevez at the beginning of the year, and right then City were desperate to get rid of him.

Joey Barton will wish they did, and so will Manchester United fans, who watched their former player make a remarkable comeback, playing a key part in City battling back from eight points down to win the league.

Milan's issue was one of finances, they did not want to stump up £25 million plus a huge amount in wages for the attacker, and the deal fell through.

Now the landscape could be about to change, with Milan preparing to sell Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva to PSG for £35 million.

Milan do not want to be seen as a selling club, and their supporters will want to see all of the money and more re-invested in the first team squad, which fell narrowly short of winning the Scudetto this year.

Fans will want to see, and expect, a big name signing this summer. Likely more than one.

There is every chance that Milan will spend their income from the Thiago Silva sale on Tevez. Another option is the ever-controversial Mario Balotelli.

If City are open to selling either of them, which will depend on the choice of manager Roberto Mancini.

Balotelli was caused an intermittent headache for his manager through the season, but his goals - not to mention his assist against QPR - were invaluable.

Tevez on the other hand caused his manager even more grief. He may be back on board, and making the right noises about commitment to the club right now, but for how long?

Does Mancini see a Tevez-Aguero partnership as the future? If not, far better to move Tevez on than have him kick his heels on the bench.

If a big bid goes come in from Milan, City must strongly consider it, they tried everything to offload him last season, and the opportunity may not come again. This is one to watch.

Who do you believe Milan will spend their Thiago Silva windfall on? Should City sell Tevez if the right offer comes in?
