As a committed fan of this wonderful club, I am pleased to share my thoughts about potentially inspired but not so commonly discussed transfers which could make United unbeatable.
We have to admit that United don’t have the fear factor which we have often possessed in recent years. It was not long ago we boasted the attacking force of Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Tevez and Berbatov.
Obviously Wazza and Nani are still with us - Berba all but leaving - But it is not as fearsome as it was before. We want to compete for all the major trophies in Europe and after finishing 2011/12 with no silverware, investment is required.
I want to see us beating City 6-1 this season, perhaps with the following signings it could happen. Have a read and ask yourselves whether they could actually materialise...
1) Mats Hummels - Borussia Dortmund
The German Rock has all the attributes of the world class defender and can be the man who replaces the outstanding Rio Ferdinand. Vidic-Hummels - what a rock solid defensive combination they would be. They would pose a nightmare for opposition strikers, even the most talented Lionel Messi. Cost: £25 million.
2) Yann M'Vila - Rennes/ Kevin Strootman - PSV
If this is an article about dream transfers only- then I would have selected Bastian Schweinsteiger. But these guys are realistic and capable of holding the fort for us. The defensive midfield position is a weakness at present with Darren Fletcher's contribution next season uncertain. Both are very strong with neat passing and make the occasional strong run into the box. They can be the players we have missed for a long time, providing the bite with crunching tackles. M'Vila is wanted by Arsenal too, I would go in favour of him because of his greater international experience. Cost: £15-20 million.
3) Samir Nasri - Manchester City
Please don’t be angry(!) you can call this guy money minded, a showman or whatever you want but I would say he is right there with the most talented young footballers in Europe. It looks like his honeymoon with Manchester City is over, there is a communication gap between him and Mancini and a sale has been suggested. He may be ready to consider his options and United cannot let the opportunity go. He can bring much-needed creativity to the side. I know he rejected us once but he is blessed with all the skills and phenomenal ability to win matches. He certainly has no problem upsetting people and crossing the Manchester divide could provide no more bad feeling for him than his departure from Arsenal did. Cost: £20-25 million.
4) Franck Ribery - Bayern Munich
The talented Frenchman is not the best disciplined footballer on the planet but his sheer talent is undeniable. Whenever he touches the ball everyone expects something to happen. United are strong in the wide area, but space can always be made for such a talent, and he could replace Nani if he ended up leaving. He has previously expressed frustration at Bayern and had a public falling out with teammate Arjen Robben, so he could be open to a move. Cost: £30 million.
5) David Alaba - Bayern Munich
Valencia's Jordi Alba has been linked with the club, but I am proposing the signature of a different left-back with a similarly sounding name. David Alaba is an Austrian defender, only 19, who made 30 Bundesliga appearances for the German runners-up last season. He is a strong defender, and good going forward. While not a finished product, there is time for improvement, and he could provide much-needed competition for Patrice Evra. Cost: £10 million.
The targets would require a large investment from the Glazers, and clearly not all would be signed. Everybody may not agree with all of them, but you surely can't argue that each player mentioned would improve the Manchester United side?
Which players would you like to see United go for next season?
