The man who has so many plaudits for his individual performances has so little to show for it in terms of team trophies.
After another trophyless season at Arsenal, all Van Persie has to show for his career in football to date is a EUFA Cup winner's medal at Feyenoord in 2002, and a 2005 FA Cup win with Arsenal.
Now Van Persie had put off all talk about an Arsenal contract extension until after the Euros, and you can't help wonder whether, frustrated at his lack of silverware with both Arsenal and Holland, he might now think it's time to move on.
At 28, he's got one more big move in him, and as hot as he is at the moment, has a real chance to go to the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona and be in contention for major honours, both domestically and in Europe.
In essence, his choice is to either finish the best days of his playing career at Arsenal and run the risk of more frustrating seasons ahead, or go for glory and move on - for more money, greater adulation and a better chance of silverware. It shouldn't be a hard decision to make.
