Plaxico Burress is one of the most recognisable wide receivers in American Football.
He has been a key member of two New York teams, notably winning the Superbowl in 2008, making the key reception from Eli Manning's pass to beat the Patriots 17-14.
He has also had a chequered off-field time, accidentally shooting himself in the leg in a New York nightclub later in the year, which led to a prison sentence and missing two years from the sport.
After returning and signing with the Jets he had a mixed season last year, making eight touchdown receptions, with the franchise failing to make the play-offs.
Now it has been suggested that Burress is bound for Carolina. At 34 he is a free agent, and arguably the best still on the market if he keeps it clean on and off the field.
He says he wants to play for Carolina, a fast improving team thanks to the incredible Cam Newton, entering his second season as quarterback, a far more exciting prospect for a wide receiver than either Jets option, Mark Sanchez or Tim tebow.
Do the Panthers need him and any potential drama he may bring. Perhaps not. One of their current top WR's Steve Smith has already come out and questioned publicly the need to bring in Burress.
With time ticking down Burress is really at the stage where he needs to find a team for next year and you can't blame him for trying to force the issue. He wants to go to Carolina because he says he knows Newton, and has family and friends in the area.
He also sells himself as being ready to make an impact, better than ever, but these may prove just to be words. You can't blame teams for being interested in him, but also passing on him too, especially when you consider his high salary demands.
However Carolina are said to be lukewarm at best on the idea of Burress, and something would have to change for them to take him on.
If he wants a move that bad then he will have to drop his demands considerably - he earned $3 million last season with the Jets - otherwise he will have to forget his dream move and look elsewhere.
Where will Burress play next season? Should the Panthers gamble on him?
