July 3 - The Amazing Spiderman 3D
This hot-at-the-moment film, despite the gimmicky 3D, stars hot-at-the-moment British actor Andrew Garfield in the role of Peter Parker, as romance blossoms between him and Emma Stone (in both the film and real life). Reviews for Spiderman have been good, and it has already made tons of money at the box office.
July 13 - Chariots of Fire
1984's Best Picture and British film is rereleased, just in time for the Olympics. Will this get the UK public in the mood for the upcoming sporting events? If they aren't in the mood already, then nothing will work.
July 13 - Salute
This documentary about the two men who saluted to Black Power in the 1968 Olympics focuses on the third man on the podium, Australian bronze medalist Peter Norman. Another timely film for the Olympics.
July 13 - Ice Age 4: Continental Drift 3D
If you haven't seen Ice Age 1-3, then you probably don't want an explanation of the plot of this one.
July 13 - Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
Just what it says on the tin: The world is coming to an end, and Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley play two people who want to live life to the fullest before it does. Carrell and Knightley as a couple? See it to believe it!
July 20 - The Dark Knight Rises
The other big action movie of the summer, this Batman sequel part 87 (or so it seems, and counting) has Christian Bale as Batman, who returns from self-imposed exile in order to protect the District Attorney's reputation. Anne Hathaway plays Catwoman, Tom Hardy is the criminal Bane, and Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman star as well. I am really looking forward to seeing this one!
July 27 - Dr. Seuss' The Lorax
Another animated 3D film, this one has the voices of current West End star Danny DeVito as the Forest Guardian and Hollywood heartthrob Zac Effron as the 12-year-old Ted. The Lorax features the voice of Taylor Swift. If that doesn't put you off, then this film could be for you.
August 1 - Ted
A child's dream that his teddy bear can talk comes true. That child is now the adult Mark Walhberg, who continues to share his life with the teddy bear. A strange plot, and if this movie is a flop, let's hope it doesn't destroy Wahlberg's career. This film made by the genius creator of Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane.
August 9 - Total Recall
Colin Farrell stars in the role Arnold Schwarzeneggar made famous, with Jessica Biel as a rebel fighter. Let's see if Farrell can fit into Arnie's large shoes.
August 10 - 360
Starring Rachel Weisz, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and Jude Law, this film links different characters from different cities and countries in a tale of romantic life in the 21st century. Finally, one for the adults.
August 13 - The Bourne Legacy
Jeremy Renner takes over from Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. If anyone can match or surpass Damon's star power and acing prowness, it is Renner.
August 22 - The Three Stooges
Yes, a film about those three guys. Left on an orphanage doorstep by their mums, Larry, Curly and Moe waste no time getting into trouble. In their adult years, they hear that the orphanage may be forced to close it doors, so they try to help keep it open. With Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes, and Will Sasso as the Stooges. This one looks very very funny!
August 24 - Shadow Dancer
Andreas Riseborough plays a single mother in a Republican community in Belfast who is arrested after a failed IRA bomb plot. It co-stars Clive Owen.
August 29 - The Watch
Four suburban guys (Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughan, Johan Hill and Richard Ayaade) form a neighbourhood watch group to escape their humdrum lives. They eventually discover that their neighbourhood has become overrun by aliens. Yes, aliens. They then try to save their neighbourhood, and the world, from total extermination. Sounds like a good film to wrap up the summer.
Of course, that other little event happening this summer could make you miss some of these films, but don't worry: They'll be on DVD soon enough.
