Mandel will relocate from Chicago to Wilmington and succeeds Daniel F. Lindley, who was appointed managing director of the company's Global Family & Private Investment Offices group in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific Region.
Mandel, who has 25 years of experience in trust and investment management for high-net-worth individuals and families, will focus on leading the regional bank's overall strategy and will also help clients make use of the unique wealth transfer advantages that the state of Delaware offers.
Mandel most recently served as a Senior Fiduciary Relationship Manager at Northern Trust and has been with the bank for more than twelve years. Mandel has handled some of Northern Trust's largest and most complex trust portfolios, including irrevocable gift trusts, generation-skipping trusts, charitable trusts, revocable trusts and investment management accounts. She also served as a Senior Attorney in the legal department from 2000 to 2007.
'Laura's proven record of success, her legal experience and advisory skills make her an ideal fit for her new role', David Blowers, Northern Trust's East Region President and CEO, said. 'I'm confident that Laura will add value as our Delaware trust business continues to expand its services to wealthy individuals and families across the nation'.
Prior to joining Northern Trust, Mandel served as Trust Counsel and as senior trust administrator at Harris Trust and Savings Bank, now BMO Harris Bank. While there, she advised trust and investment professionals on numerous complex fiduciary and estate planning issues. Mandel also practiced law with two Chicago firms where she specialized in estate planning and trust law.
Mandel is admitted to the bar of the State of Illinois and to the bar of the United States Supreme Court and holds a Chartered Private Wealth Advisor designation. She received her bachelor's degree in political science with honors from Loyola University of Chicago and a Juris Doctor degree from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
She has been on the Trust Administration faculty of the American Bankers Association's National Trust School and has served on the school's board of directors. She also was a faculty member for the ABA's National Graduate Trust School. Mandel has made numerous presentations to bar and industry groups and written articles for legal publications.
